Bought Windows 10/11 Pro upgrade on Microsoft account <mod: PII Removed>@gmail.com. Order is completed, but device PapaKaw remains on Windows 11 Home. Activation fails repeatedly with error 0xC004F050. Need support to apply the Pro digital license or refund/reissue.

    Hello,

Try to see if you can upgrade this way:

You can go to Settings > System > Activation > Change product key

Disconnect internet, and disable any third party antivirus, key in the generic key instead: VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

That should get you to Pro. Once restarted, you can connect back to the internet, sign into your Microsoft account. See if it is activated.

Let me know how it goes. If it fails, don't worry, this is not the dead end yet.. I just don't want to overwhelm you with a bunch of instructions right away.

Error 0xC004F050 indicates that the product key used for the upgrade is not valid for activating the installed edition of Windows.

For a purchased Windows 10/11 Pro upgrade from the Microsoft Store that will not activate and returns 0xC004F050, the supported options are:

    1. Confirm the correct edition and retry activation
      1. On device PapaKaw, go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
      2. Verify that Windows 11 Home is currently installed.
      3. Select Change product key and enter the Pro upgrade key from the Microsoft Store order if it is visible. If activation still fails with 0xC004F050, proceed to the next steps.
    2. Use the Microsoft Store upgrade path
      1. From Windows 11 Home on PapaKaw, open the Microsoft Store upgrade page using the built-in shortcut: Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro.
      2. Sign in with the same Microsoft account that shows the completed Pro upgrade order.
      3. Let the Store detect the existing Home activation and guide through the upgrade. When the upgrade completes, Windows should switch to Pro and activate using the digital license associated with that account.
    3. Run the Activation troubleshooter
      1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Activation.
      2. Select Troubleshoot.
      3. If a valid digital license for Windows 11 Pro is found for that Microsoft account, the troubleshooter will offer Upgrade to Windows 11 Pro. Choose Start upgrade and wait for the process to complete.
    4. If activation still fails Error 0xC004F050 is explicitly listed among the activation errors that require either a different key or direct support. When the purchased Pro upgrade key will not activate and the Store/troubleshooter paths fail, resolution (reassigning the digital license, replacing the key, or refunding/reissuing the purchase) must be handled by Microsoft support. In this situation, contact Microsoft support with:
      • The Microsoft Store order number for the Pro upgrade.
      • The Microsoft account used for purchase.
      • The device name (PapaKaw) and the 0xC004F050 error code.
Support can verify the order, check the license status, and either correct the activation on PapaKaw or handle refund/reissue according to policy.
