Capturing audio, video, and screen content from Teams meetings for later review or sharing
Hi @CPW,
Thank you for reaching out with your question regarding why your meeting recordings are no longer appearing directly in the Teams chat. This behavior can occur for several reasons, such as:
- The Teams client not fully rendering the recording card in the chat, especially when there is a lot of meeting activity.
- Being in a different chat thread than the specific meeting occurrence where the recording was posted.
- Uploading or moving videos manually into the Recordings folder rather than using the meeting’s built‑in recording function, which prevents Teams from embedding the video card automatically.
- A temporary client-side issue where Teams does not refresh the recording card until the chat is reloaded.
To help isolate the cause, here are a few steps you can try, depending on your situation:
1/ Open the meeting chat and scroll all the way to the top, until you see the meeting start notification. Then scroll back down. This often forces Teams to load the missing recording card.
2/ Ensure you're viewing the chat for the correct meeting occurrence, especially if it was part of a recurring series.
3/ If the video was manually uploaded, you can share it in the chat by copying the link from the Recordings folder and pasting it directly into Teams. This will generate a preview card similar to the automatic one.
4/ If this happens frequently, clearing the Teams cache or signing out/in may help refresh the client if the issue is due to cached data. You can clear the Teams cache by following the guidance in his article: Clear the Teams client cache - Microsoft Teams | Microsoft Learn.
To make sure recordings appear reliably in the chat going forward, after the meeting ends and the file appears in OneDrive/SharePoint, you may copy the link from the recording and paste it back into Teams. This ensures your staff sees a preview card even if the automatic card does not appear.
Additionally, avoid renaming or moving the recording file immediately after the meeting, as Teams may still be completing the upload process.
