I have a Office 2024 but computer will not let me remove Office Home and student key

Hi Jonathan, There is no Office Home and Student 2024, there is an Office Home 2024 (this in earlier versions was called Office Home and Student 2021, etc. And, there is no way to recover the Product Key once used to redeem your Office. You just need to sign in (with the Microsoft Account used with the Product Key to redeem your Office) at services and subscriptions here: https://account.microsoft.com/services you can reinstall Office from there. But you must uninstall it before activating Office if you are installing it on another computer.

Are you able to see your Microsoft Office 2024 under the Services & subscriptions page here: https://account.microsoft.com/services (make sure you’re signed in with the same Microsoft account you used to activate Office)?

If you can see it there, please follow these steps below.

Before installing, it’s a good idea to uninstall all existing versions of Office to avoid conflicts.

Here’s how:

Open the Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
Look for any version of Microsoft Office or Office apps, right-click, then choose Uninstall. Please uninstall all Office apps.
Once that’s done, restart your computer just to be safe.

Then, to reinstall Microsoft Office:

Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services again.
Sign in using the same Microsoft account linked to your license.
Find your Microsoft Office 2024 and click the "Install".

To remove the existing Office Home & Student product key and use the correct Office 2024 license, remove the current Office installation and then reinstall/activate with the right account or key.

Uninstall the current Office
- On Windows 10 or later, use the Office uninstall troubleshooter:
  1. Run the uninstall tool from the Uninstall button described in the articles below.
  2. Run it on the same PC where Office Home & Student is installed.
  3. Follow the prompts and restart the PC when asked.
- If the troubleshooter does not fully remove Office, use the manually uninstall Office steps from the referenced articles.
Reinstall Office 2024 with the correct license
- If Office 2024 is a one-time purchase tied to a Microsoft account, sign in with that account and install the product from the Services & subscriptions page as described in the Q&A reference.
- During or after installation, open Word or another Office app and sign in with the same Microsoft account so it activates with the correct license instead of the old Home & Student key.
Best practice when you have multiple Office licenses
- Each Install button in the account portal is tied to a specific product key and PC. If multiple copies of Office were bought, ensure the correct license is installed on this PC and keep a list of which key/account is used on which device.

If the PC still shows the old Home & Student license after reinstall, repeat the uninstall (including manual removal) and confirm that sign-in is done only with the account that owns Office 2024.
