Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
To register a payment method and activate Microsoft 365, the debit card must meet Microsoft’s requirements and the card details must match exactly what the bank has on file.
Follow these checks and steps:
- Verify the card is an accepted type
- Prepaid cards, stored value cards, Visa/MasterCard gift cards, and virtual cards are not accepted.
- The card must be issued in the same country/region as the Microsoft account/tenant.
- Confirm the card is active and allowed for online/international use
- Contact the bank or card issuer and confirm:
- The card is active and not blocked.
- Online and (if applicable) international transactions are allowed.
- There are sufficient funds.
- Contact the bank or card issuer and confirm:
- Check the card information entered
- Ensure the following match exactly what the bank has on file:
- Card number
- Expiration date
- Name on the card
- Billing address (including city, state, ZIP/postal code)
- Correct any mismatch and try adding the card again.

- Try adding the payment method again
- For business accounts, sign in to the Microsoft 365 admin center, go to Billing > Bills & payments > Payment methods, and select Add a payment method. Enter the card details and save.
- If the card is still declined or cannot be added
- If the bank confirms there is no block and the details are correct but the card still cannot be added or is declined, contact Microsoft Support for direct assistance with the payment method and activation.
If the subscription is already past due, sign in to the Services & subscriptions page for the Microsoft account, select the past-due subscription, choose Pay now, and either update the existing payment method or add a new one that meets the above requirements.
