Where did you get your Windows licence was that pre-installed on the PC or did you purchase a full retail Windows licence from Microsoft or from a 3rd party retailer, and if so, do you have the product key?

Or is your Windows licence based on a previous Windows 7 or 8 licence?

Click your Start Button, type cmd then right click Command Prompt and choose 'Run as Administrator'

Run or paste this command and hit Enter:

slmgr.vbs /dlv

Windows cannot be activated directly from a message like this. Activation requires either a valid product key or a digital license associated with a Microsoft account.

To activate Windows 11 on this PC:

1. Open Settings > Update & Security (or System > Activation on some builds) > Activation.
2. Check the activation status shown under Windows.
3. If there is a product key:
   • Select Change product key.
   • Enter the 25-character product key that came with the PC or with the purchased copy of Windows, then follow the prompts.
4. If there is no product key but there was a digital license linked to a Microsoft account on this device:
   • Sign in with that same Microsoft account.
   • Use the Activation troubleshooter if available on the Activation page to reactivate after hardware changes.
5. If activation still fails and there is a valid license:
   • Try activating by phone:
     • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation.
     • Select Activate by Phone (or press Windows logo key + R, type slui 4, select OK), choose the region, and follow the automated instructions.
6. If there is no valid product key or digital license, a new Windows license must be purchased. Using unofficial tools or scripts (for example, non-Microsoft KMS servers) is not a legal or supported way to activate Windows.

If the PC was bought pre-owned and the key was already used on more devices than allowed, or if major hardware changes were made (like replacing the motherboard) without a transferable retail license, a new product key or copy of Windows will be required.
