How to make my Azure for students subscription work again

I originally had an Azure for Students subscription, which eventually became Disabled. After that, I moved to a Pay‑As‑You‑Go setup and I am able to create, enable, and manage new subscriptions normally.

However, the original student subscription (PII) has completely disappeared from the Subscriptions blade and the Azure CLI. It only appears in billing history and cannot be accessed or restored. It never showed any option to reactivate. It is active in my azure sponsorships.Screenshot 2026-03-21 210015

My current subscriptions are working, and I can enable or add new ones, but the old student subscription is permanently gone and cannot be recovered. I want to clarify this because the missing subscription creates confusion in billing history and makes it look like something is wrong, even though my active subscriptions are functioning.

    Hi Mayank Sharma
Thank you for reaching out and for providing detailed information about your subscription.

We understand your concern regarding the missing Azure for Students subscription. Based on the details shared, we would like to clarify that this behavior is expected in Azure.

Azure for Students subscriptions are tied to a limited time offer and credit amount. Once the offer expires, the credits are exhausted, or the subscription remains inactive/disabled for a period of time, it goes through a lifecycle of being disabled and eventually permanently removed (purged) from the active subscriptions list.

    After this process:

    • The subscription will no longer appear in the Subscriptions blade or Azure CLI
    • It cannot be reactivated or restored
    • Microsoft support does not have the ability to recover purged subscriptions

However, for auditing and billing purposes, the record of the subscription is retained in billing history and sponsorship views. This is why you are still able to see it there, even though it is no longer an active or accessible subscription.

We would also like to confirm that your current Pay-As-You-Go subscriptions are functioning correctly, and there is no issue with your account or billing setup.

Please let me know if you face any challenge here, I can help you to resolve this issue further
