Azure Portal asks for 6-digit MFA code but Microsoft Authenticator generates 8-digit code for personal account (GitHub-backed)

Hi,

I am unable to sign in to Azure Portal (portal.azure.com) because it requires a 6-digit MFA verification code, but my Microsoft Authenticator app only generates 8-digit OTP codes for my personal Microsoft account.

Here are the details of my issue:

  • My account (<PII REMOVED>) is a personal Microsoft account backed by GitHub credentials.
      • When I try to sign in to Azure Portal, after entering my email, it asks me to "Enter code" - specifically a 6-digit code from Microsoft Authenticator.
        • However, my Microsoft Authenticator app generates an 8-digit, 30-second OTP code for this account.
    • - - The 8-digit code does not work in the 6-digit field on Azure Portal login.

      • - - Push notifications are also NOT being generated for Azure Portal sign-in.

        • - - This issue is ONLY with Azure Portal. I can sign in to other Microsoft services (Outlook, Microsoft 365, etc.) without any problems using the same account.

          • - - I cannot access [https://aka.ms/mfasetup]() or [https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info]() because they say "You can't sign in here with a personal account. Use your work or school account instead."

            • - - I have already contacted Microsoft Support (case #7099979782) and was directed to contact Azure support, but Azure support requires Azure Portal login - creating a catch-22 situation.

                • The Azure tenant ID shown in the login URL is: <PII REMOVED>
              • I have seen similar issues reported by other users on Microsoft Q&A where the resolution was having the Microsoft Data Protection team reset the MFA. Could someone from the Azure/Entra ID team please help reset my MFA so I can regain access to Azure Portal?
                Thank you for your help.
