Is there a way to recover emails deleted by a hacker?

I have recovered as much as I can from the outlook deleted items. Is there a way to access the emails that the hacker has deleted? It has been less than 2 weeks since the hack. I have not been locked out of the account at any point. I believe the hacker has been kicked out of my account, security settings all changed, malicious rules changed etc.

Hi Frances, Yes, this is a problem with hacked email accounts. Maybe Microsoft support has some ideas on this since it is a user user support forum.

Please contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.

Please go to the https://support.microsoft.com/contactus page

    Type "Billing" and press Enter.

Please click on the "Contact support" button at the bottom.

Select the Product and Category for support based on your requirements.

The available support methods will be shown to you.

I hope this information helps. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to reach out.

Otherwise, please take a moment to rate the answer. Wishing you good luck!

Deleted messages that a hacker removed can sometimes be recovered, as long as they are still within Outlook’s retention period and not yet permanently purged.

For Outlook on the web / Outlook.com:

    1. Use a desktop browser on a PC or Mac (the next step does not work in mobile browsers).
    2. In the left folder pane, open the Deleted Items folder.
    3. At the top of the message list, select Recover items deleted from this folder. This opens the Recoverable Items area, which holds items that were removed from Deleted Items.
    4. Browse or sort the list, then select the emails to bring back.
      • Use Ctrl+Click to pick individual messages.
      • Use Shift+Click to select a range.
    5. Choose Restore.

Restored items are returned to their original folders when possible. If the original folder no longer exists, recovered messages are placed in Inbox.

If the emails do not appear in the Recoverable Items view, they have likely been permanently deleted and cannot be restored by normal user actions. In an organizational (work/school) environment, an administrator might still have options depending on configured retention policies; for personal Outlook.com accounts, recovery is limited to what is available in Deleted Items and Recoverable Items.
