I'm having trouble signing into my groupme account on my Macbook. I'm logged in on my phone, but for some reason I cannot log in on my computer. I get to the two step verification portion where it sends me a code, but then it says "Something went wrong, please try again or contact GroupMe support". Any tips?

Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

May I please know if you have any other verification methods on the two-step verification page?
That is, if you are requesting the verification code on your recovery email address, try requesting the verification code on your phone number and see if you can sign in successfully.

If you do not have any other options, try adding a phone number for verification in your Microsoft account using your mobile device.

Select Add a new way to sign in or verify, then select Phone number and add it successfully.

You can then open an incognito tab on your Safari web browser on your Mac.

Go to https://groupme.com/ and click Log in.

See if you can verify your identity and log in successfully.

Try these steps to get past the two-step verification error on Mac:

    1. Confirm two-step verification works on the phone
      • On the phone (where already signed in), go to the GroupMe profile/settings.
      • Make sure the phone number is correct and that two-step verification is enabled as expected.
      • If two-step verification was just turned on, ensure the device can receive SMS and that no call/SMS blocking apps are interfering.
    2. Check basic registration/number requirements
      • The phone number must belong to the user, be able to receive SMS, and not be a VoIP, landline, toll-free, premium-rate, or UAN number.
      • Make sure the latest GroupMe app is installed on the phone and that there is an active internet connection.
    3. If the verification code (PIN) is not received or fails
      • Wait up to a few minutes before retrying; avoid repeatedly requesting or guessing codes.
      • Keep the verification/PIN screen open instead of restarting the sign-in flow, so a new PIN is not generated each time.
      • If codes consistently fail or never arrive, contact GroupMe support and include the phone number and a description of the error message seen on Mac.
    4. Use backup code if two-step verification is enabled
      • When two-step verification was first enabled, a backup code was provided. If available, use that backup code to sign in instead of SMS.
      • If the backup code was lost and SMS verification is failing, follow the guidance for not receiving a GroupMe PIN and contact support.
    5. If still blocked on Mac only
      • Try signing in to GroupMe via a different browser on the Mac or another computer to see if the issue is specific to one browser/session.
      • If the error persists across browsers/devices (except the already-signed-in phone), it is likely an account or verification issue that GroupMe support must resolve.

For persistent two-step verification or PIN issues, the next step is to contact support and describe that SMS verification works on the phone account but fails with “Something went wrong” when signing in on Mac.
