Error 0x800BFA07 appears when trying to join or change Windows Insider Preview settings from Settings. Use the standard Insider troubleshooting flow to resolve issues with joining or receiving builds.
- Confirm the device is eligible and correctly configured for Insider builds:
- Make sure it is running an activated, licensed copy of Windows 10 or Windows 11.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation and verify Windows is activated.
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school and confirm the correct Microsoft account or Microsoft Entra account is connected.
- Verify Insider registration and channel:
- Ensure the account is registered as a Windows Insider on the Insider website.
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program and confirm the program is activated and a channel is selected. If the device was previously in Dev Channel and channel changes are failing, a clean install may be required to reset Insider settings.
- Check for known issues and service-side problems:
- Review recent Windows Insider flight blog posts to see if error 0x800BFA07 or enrollment issues are listed as known issues for the current build or channel.
- If the device is partially enrolled or stuck:
- Follow the guidance under Not receiving updates to ensure:
- The device is on the latest Insider Preview build for its channel (check Flight Hub).
- Required diagnostic data settings are enabled as described in the data-settings documentation.
- If the device remains stuck in an error state when submitting the agreement, consider performing a clean installation of Windows and then re-enrolling in the Windows Insider Program.
- If the issue blocks normal use or enrollment cannot be completed:
- Use Settings > Update & Security > Recovery to reset the PC while staying on the current build, or perform a clean install using an ISO as described in the Insider ISO documentation.
- If Insider builds are no longer desired, unenroll the device via Settings > Update & Security > Windows Insider Program > Stop Insider Preview Builds, or perform a clean install of a non-Insider Windows release.
- Report the problem to Microsoft:
- Open the Feedback Hub app and file feedback under the appropriate Windows Insider category, including screenshots of the 0x800BFA07 dialog and any logs requested by Feedback Hub.
