Processes in Microsoft 365 for setting up Office apps, redeeming product keys, and activating licenses.
On iOS, when all Microsoft 365 apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote) suddenly stop working after an OS update, the most reliable fix is to fully remove and reinstall the apps and their local data, then apply any available app updates that include compatibility fixes.
Follow these steps:
- Delete all Microsoft 365 apps
- On the iOS device, delete each Office app that is failing (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Microsoft 365 app, etc.).
- Reboot the device
- Power the device off completely, wait a few seconds, then power it back on. This clears any cached state that might be causing the crashes.
- Reinstall the apps
- Go to the App Store and reinstall the Microsoft 365 apps.
- After installation, open each app and sign in with the Microsoft account or work/school account that has the Microsoft 365 subscription.
- Make sure the apps are updated
- In the App Store, check for updates and install any available updates for Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, or the Microsoft 365 app. Newer builds often contain fixes for issues introduced by recent OS updates.
- If sign-in problems appear
- If any app reports subscription or sign-in issues, verify that the correct account and password are used and that the device meets the current system requirements, as described under What to try if you can't sign in to the app.
If the issue started exactly after the iOS update and persists even after reinstalling and updating the apps, wait for the next Microsoft 365 app update from the App Store, as similar issues on other platforms have been resolved by subsequent Office updates.
