Use the following steps to troubleshoot Outlook only opening when run as administrator.

    1. Try starting Outlook in Safe Mode to rule out add-ins:
      • Press Windows key + R.
      • Type Outlook.exe /safe and select OK.
      • If Outlook opens normally in Safe Mode, disable add-ins:
        • In Outlook, go to File > Options > Add-ins.
        • At the bottom, next to Manage: COM Add-ins, select Go.
        • Clear all check boxes to disable add-ins, then select OK.
        • Close Outlook, then start it normally (not as administrator).
        • Re-enable add-ins one at a time, restarting Outlook each time, to find which add-in causes the problem. Leave the problematic add-in disabled.
    2. Reset the Navigation Pane in case a corrupted profile view is blocking normal startup:
      • Close Outlook.
      • Press Windows key + R.
      • Type Outlook.exe /resetnavpane and select OK.
      • Then try starting Outlook normally.
    3. If Outlook still closes immediately, check whether the issue matches the known crash where Outlook briefly opens then stops responding:
      • This issue is associated with a blank EmailAddress value under the Office identity registry key:
        • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\Identities
      • Recommended workarounds:
        1. Sign out of Office and sign back in to repopulate identity registry settings. See Sign in to Office.
        2. If identity is still not set correctly, you can disable Support Diagnostics (this turns off the in-app Help > Contact Support path that can trigger the crash) by setting this registry value:
          • Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General
          • Value name: DisableSupportDiagnostics
          • Value type: REG_DWORD
          • Value data: 1
        3. As an advanced step, manually set the EmailAddress string for the affected identity under the registry path above to the correct user email address.
    4. Ensure Outlook/Office is updated to a build that contains the fix for this crash:
      • The issue is fixed in:
        • Current Channel Version 2209 (Build 15629.20156)
        • Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel (Preview) Version 2208 (Build 15601.20158)
      • Update Office from any other channel to a version that includes this fix, then test Outlook again without administrator.

If Outlook opens only as administrator because of profile corruption or navigation pane issues, steps 1–2 typically resolve it. If the behavior matches the brief-open-then-close crash, use steps 3–4.
