Outlook or Microsoft 365 subscriptions and product keys are managed entirely through the Microsoft account and Microsoft’s billing systems. Community forums cannot look up accounts, restore old licenses, or see past purchases, so direct contact with Microsoft Support is required in this case.
For the missing/lost product key or lifetime Outlook/Office license:
- If the original purchase included a product key card, email receipt, or box, check any old paperwork, emails, or retailer records for the key or proof of purchase.
- If the product key is lost or damaged but there is valid proof of purchase, Microsoft Support may be able to replace the key or offer options. Use the official support channel to request this: Contact Microsoft support.
- If the key was bought separately from the software (for example, as a cheap “lifetime” key from a third party), there is a risk it was not an authorized key. In that case, Microsoft may have blocked it, and the seller would be the one to contact for a refund.
For Outlook/Microsoft 365 access after canceling the subscription:
- Microsoft 365 consumer subscriptions (which include Outlook as part of the suite) use the Microsoft account for activation, not a product key, in most cases. To continue using Outlook with a valid license, sign in with the same Microsoft account that owns the subscription or license on the Microsoft account, Services & subscriptions page.
- If Microsoft 365 is prompting for a product key, normally the correct action is to sign in with the Microsoft account used to buy it, not to enter a key. Only certain special cases (like Workplace Discount Program or volume licenses) still use product keys.
- If the subscription was canceled and there is no other valid license attached to the account, Outlook that came with Microsoft 365 will stop working once the subscription ends. In that case, a new valid subscription or license is required.
If none of the above resolves the issue, or if it is unclear which account or license is associated with Outlook, contact Microsoft Support directly so an agent can review the account and billing details securely:
- Go to the Microsoft support page: https://support.microsoft.com/contactus/
- Sign in with the Microsoft account if possible.
- Choose the product (Microsoft 365/Office or Outlook) and select a billing or subscription category.
- Use the “Chat with a support agent” or phone callback option.
Because this involves account ownership, billing, and a lost product key, only Microsoft Support can investigate and restore or replace licenses where possible.
