    Hi, I'm John!

No, you won’t lose your files. Your files in OneDrive stay in your account, not tied to the Family plan itself.

    Important:

    • If your current usage is within the Individual plan limit (usually 1TB) > no issue.
    • If you are over the limit after switching > your account may go read-only until you free up space or upgrade.

After switching subscription or cleaning OneDrive space, it can take up to 24 to 48 hours for everything to fully update across your account. I’d recommend waiting that time and check again OneDrive after that.

If the update is still pending after 24 hours, you can try unlinking and relinking your OneDrive account, or resetting it. "Unlink and re-link OneDrive" https://support.microsoft.com/office/unlink-and-re-link-onedrive-3c4680bf-cc36-4204-9ca5-e7b24cdd23ea

I really hope this information is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.

    Regards,

    John J.D.

Changing from Microsoft 365 Family to Microsoft 365 Personal does not delete files already stored in the cloud.

What changes is your subscription benefits, not your existing data:

    • Your OneDrive storage per user stays the same size; what changes is the number of users who can have that storage. When switching from Family to Personal, there is no change to storage size for the account that keeps the subscription, but other family members will lose their subscription benefits.
    • If someone loses access to the shared Family subscription (for example, because you switch to Personal and no longer share with them), their files remain intact, but:
      • Their extra 1 TB OneDrive storage benefit is removed and reverts to the previous size.
      • They lose access to fully functional desktop apps (they can still view and print files, but not edit or create new ones) unless they get their own subscription.

So the content already saved in the cloud is not lost, but affected family members may lose storage capacity and editing rights unless they have or purchase their own Microsoft 365 subscription.
