    Hi,

When did the issue start? Did you make any changes to your computer before the issue arose?

Is this your personal computer or Work or school account?

If peronal, go to Windows Settings > Accounts > Access Work or School Account, and check if there's any organization attached. If there is, disconnect it and restart your computer then check.

Right-click the Start Menu and click Device manager

Expand the Biometric driver or Human Interface Device

Right-click the driver and choose 'Update Driver'

    Choose 'Search automatically for drivers'

If it says the best driver is already installed,

Choose 'Browse my computer for driver'

Click 'Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer'

Choose the an older version from the list.

If the issue persists, uninstall the driver instead and restart your PC.

Try these steps in order to restore Windows Hello Face:

    1. Confirm the camera works
    • Open the Camera app. If only a black image appears, check for:
      • A camera function key on the keyboard (often F-key with a camera icon) and press it (or Fn + that key).
      • A physical privacy slider over the camera and open it.
    • If still not working, go to the PC manufacturer’s support page and reinstall the webcam driver they provide.
    1. Re‑set or improve Windows Hello Face
    • Sign in with PIN or password.
    • Go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
    • Under Windows Hello Face / Facial recognition (Windows Hello):
      • If available, select Improve recognition and follow the steps.
      • If the option is present but not working well, choose Remove, then Set up to scan the face again.
    1. Run the Windows Hello troubleshooter
    • From Sign-in options, use the Windows Hello troubleshooter if offered, or use the dedicated troubleshooter link: Run the troubleshooter / Run Windows Hello troubleshooter shown in the documentation.
    1. If using a Surface device
    • Make sure the device supports Windows Hello Face (some Surface Laptop Go models do not and only support fingerprint).
    • Ensure Windows and firmware are fully updated using the Surface drivers and firmware update guidance.

If the camera is working, the device supports Windows Hello Face, and the feature is still unavailable after these steps, use PIN/password to sign in and reconfigure Windows Hello from scratch via Sign-in options.
