Microsoft Family Safety can automatically block Google Chrome and other non‑Edge browsers when web and search filters are enabled for a child account. This is expected behavior and is controlled by the family organizer.
To change this, the family organizer must adjust the child’s Family Safety settings.
Using a browser (family.microsoft.com / account.microsoft.com):
- The family organizer signs in to the Microsoft account at https://account.microsoft.com.
- Selects the family member (for example, “aunjai thongchai”).
- Goes to Apps and games (under Windows or the relevant device tab).
- Looks for Google Chrome in the app list:
- To keep Chrome blocked: leave it blocked.
- To allow Chrome: select the menu next to Chrome and choose Unblock app.
- If web filtering is enabled, Edge is the only browser that fully supports Family Safety web and search filters. Other browsers may be blocked or require explicit approval.
Using the Microsoft Family Safety app (Android/iOS):
- Open Microsoft Family Safety and sign in as the family organizer.
- On the List tab, select the child (for example, “aunjai thongchai”).
- Under Apps and games, tap Google Chrome (if listed) and choose Block app or Unblock app as needed.
- If web and search filters are in use, verify Content filters > Web and search settings for that child.
If Chrome is being blocked because web filtering is turned on, and the organizer wants the child to browse only through Microsoft Edge with filters applied, keep Chrome blocked. If the organizer wants to allow Chrome, they must both unblock the app and understand that Family Safety web and search filters only work in Microsoft Edge.
