Is it time Microsoft allowed account merging?

I'm sure like many of you, we've been using the internet for decades now. And for various reasons we've ended up with many accounts over different services. I know I have multiple Microsoft accounts alone. Some reasons make it necissary to keep these accounts, for me its xbox saves and purchases, etc.

Isn't it about time we were allowed to merge accounts to allow us all to declutter our digital footprints?

    Hello,

Since an official "Merge" button doesn't exist, here is how you can functionally consolidate your digital footprint without losing your history:

    • Log into your Xbox with Account A > Go to Settings > General > Personalization > My home Xbox > Select Make this my home Xbox > Now, any other account (Account B) on that console can play Account A’s games and use its Game Pass subscription
    • Use Alias Option: You cannot merge two existing @outlook.com or @hotmail.com accounts
// Pick your "Primary" account //
Go to Account Settings > Your Info > Edit account info > Add an Alias using a third-party email (Gmail, iCloud) or a new Outlook address
"Note: You cannot add an existing Microsoft account as an alias to another."
    • For files: Manual Migration: Use a PC to sync both OneDrive accounts > Simply drag and drop the folders > Wait for the sync

Final Thought: The industry is moving toward "Family Sharing" as the workaround, allowing multiple IDs to share a single "pool" of purchases without actually merging the identities

    I hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Hi Matt Clark,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum. I'm happy to help.

We completely understand how frustrating it can be to end up with multiple Microsoft accounts over the years, and we appreciate you raising this concern.

Your feedback is genuinely valuable and helps highlight areas where users would like to see improvements. I really wish I could assist you directly on this issue. However, it is tied to back‑end systems and service functionality, and unfortunately, we don't have the authority or access required to investigate or make changes at that level.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas.

The best next step would be to Send feedback to Microsoft with the Feedback Hub app or Feedback portal. They can review your specific scenario and advise on any available options or workarounds that may help you manage your accounts more effectively.

Thanks again for sharing your experience and for being part of the Microsoft community — your input truly matters.
