I would like to use Dropbox instead of OneDrive for my cloud storage. Is it possible to autosave documents created in Microsoft Office 365 to Dropbox, or do they always have to be saved manually?

AutoSave in Microsoft 365 desktop apps is only enabled for files stored on OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint Online. For files saved to other locations such as a local drive, file server, other cloud storage services (including Dropbox), or SharePoint on-premises, AutoSave is disabled and changes must be saved manually (for example, with Ctrl+S or File > Save).

On Android, Office apps also autosave changes, including when offline, but this behavior is described generically and not specifically tied to Dropbox in the provided information.

So for Office on Windows and Mac, documents stored directly in Dropbox do not use the built-in AutoSave feature and need to be saved manually.
