My Windows ll PC goes into sleep mode and wont wake up. I have to turn off power and then power on to get it going again. I've heard that AI does some of your software upgrades/changes and that that glitches happen that a real person has to fix. This is an annoying issue. Are you working on it?

Thanks

    Hi!

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

Can I get a bit more information like what device are you using right now is it a desktop or a laptop? When was the last time that it worked properly without issue?

This behavior is usually caused by how the hardware, drivers, or power settings handle sleep and wake, not by an unfinished update. Several checks can help resolve it:

    1. Verify the device is allowed to wake the PC
      • Open Control PanelKeyboard.
      • Go to Hardware → select the keyboard → PropertiesChange Settings.
      • Open the Power Management tab.
      • Make sure Allow this device to wake the computer is enabled.
      • Repeat similarly for the mouse in Control PanelMouse if needed.
      • If these options are missing, the system may not fully support ACPI wake from keyboard/mouse, in which case the power button is the only supported wake method.
    2. Check motherboard/BIOS power features
      • Many systems have BIOS options that control whether USB ports or PCI devices stay powered in sleep.
      • Enter the BIOS/UEFI setup during boot and look for power management options related to waking from USB/keyboard/mouse or sleep/standby.
      • Ensure those wake options are enabled. If unsure, follow the documentation from the PC or motherboard manufacturer.
    3. Consider Modern Standby behavior
      • On newer Windows 11 devices that use Modern Standby, the system behaves more like a phone: the screen is off but the device is still on and connected.
      • Waking is typically done via the power button or opening the lid. Some wake sources (like certain USB devices) may not be enabled, especially on battery.
      • Starting with Windows 11, version 24H2, if excessive battery drain is detected in Modern Standby, most wake sources are disabled and only the power button or opening the lid will wake the device.
    4. Update device drivers
      • Out-of-date chipset, graphics, or storage drivers can cause failures resuming from sleep.
      • Use Windows Update and the PC manufacturer’s support tools to install the latest drivers, especially for chipset and power management.
    5. If wake still fails
      • If the PC never resumes correctly (screen stays black, system unresponsive) and only a full power cycle works, this can indicate a deeper hardware/firmware issue.
      • In that case, contact the PC or motherboard manufacturer with details of the model and Windows 11 version so they can provide BIOS or driver updates specific to that hardware.

Microsoft is actively evolving Windows 11 power management (including Modern Standby and new power-saving measures), and issues that affect many users are addressed through regular updates. Installing the latest cumulative updates and OEM drivers is the primary way those fixes are delivered.
