Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
If a Microsoft 365 Family or Microsoft 365 Premium subscription is canceled or stops being shared, people you shared with keep their files but lose subscription benefits.
Specifically, when the subscription holder cancels or lets the subscription expire, or stops sharing with someone:
- All shared users lose Microsoft 365 subscription benefits:
- They lose access to fully functional desktop Microsoft 365 apps (they can still view and print files, but cannot edit or create new documents).
- They lose the extra OneDrive storage (for shared subscriptions, typically the 1 TB benefit). Their storage reverts to the free allowance or previous size.
- Files remain intact:
- Their existing files in OneDrive and in Microsoft 365 apps remain available to view and print.
- For Microsoft 365 Family group scenarios:
- If the subscription holder leaves the family group, everyone in the family who was using that subscription loses access to the subscription benefits.
- If someone is removed from the family group or the subscription is no longer shared with them, they also lose access to Family inbox and Family calendar in Outlook.com.
If the subscription is canceled (Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium), storage for the owner and all people shared with reverts to 5 GB of cloud storage (shared across OneDrive and Outlook.com attachments) plus 15 GB of Outlook.com storage. If anyone is over the free allowance, they will not be able to upload, edit, or sync new OneDrive files or send/receive Outlook.com email, and OneDrive content may be deleted after 6 months.
