A family of Microsoft products that enable users to capture, organize, and reuse notes electronically.
In OneNote for Microsoft 365 on Windows, the Transcribe feature only appears when all of the following are true:
- OneNote version and platform
- Transcribe is currently available only on the Windows platform in OneNote for Microsoft 365.
- It is not available in other OneNote editions (for example, the free Windows 10 app, Mac, or web) and not available for GCC/GCC-H/DoD tenants.
- License requirements
- An active Microsoft 365 subscription is required.
- If the Transcribe button is missing, verify that the signed-in account has an active Microsoft 365 subscription. If not, the button will not appear.
- Account and permissions
- If the message “Switch account to transcribe on this notebook” appears, switch to an account that has edit permissions on that page:
- Select the user profile shown in the top-right corner of OneNote.
- Choose the profile that has edit permissions for the notebook/page.

If using OneNote for Microsoft 365 on Windows with an active subscription and the correct account, but the Transcribe button still does not appear, the environment is likely one where the feature is not yet available (for example, unsupported tenant type or OneNote edition). In that case, it cannot be added to the toolbar.
