Unable to use Microsoft 2019 on MacBook after installation

I was able to o install Microsoft 2019 on my MacBook, but whenever I try to open word or excel apps, it tells me no license found and to buy 365.

Because Office 2019 for Mac is a one-time (perpetual) license, it must be installed and activated using the correct method and account. The “No license found / Buy 365” message usually means one of these is wrong:

1. The apps came from the Mac App Store
   • Office apps installed from the Mac App Store cannot use Office 2019, 2016, or other one-time licenses. They only work with a Microsoft 365 subscription.
   • If Word/Excel were installed from the Mac App Store, uninstall those apps, then reinstall Office directly from the Microsoft account where the Office 2019 license is registered.
2. Wrong Microsoft account is being used
   • When prompted to sign in to activate, use the same Microsoft account that holds the Office 2019 license.
   • If the wrong account is used, the apps show “No license found” and offer only a Microsoft 365 purchase.
3. License not correctly associated or installed
   • Sign in at Office.com with the account used to buy Office 2019 and start the installer from there so the correct license is applied.
   • If activation still loops or keeps asking to buy 365, remove existing Office license files on the Mac and reactivate using the correct account and installer.

If the goal is specifically to use Office 2019 (not Microsoft 365), ensure:

• Office is not installed from the Mac App Store.
