Confirm double billing with husband's account

Good afternoon,

My husband and I appear to have registered with Microsoft for my laptop's account. I am up for renewal in 8/26. He is apparently up for renewal this month as he originally registered my laptop and a Microsoft 365 account. We wish to ensure that there is only one account (my account) being billed for my Microsoft 365.

How can I accomplish this closure of his account on my behalf, but obviously continue with my account? Please advise as soon as possible at my email: ******@gmail.com.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Linda L. A. Small

To stop double billing while keeping only one active Microsoft 365 subscription, the subscriptions must be managed and, if needed, cancelled separately under each Microsoft account. Community support and other users cannot access or change accounts on someone’s behalf.

Use these steps as a guide:

    1. Identify which account/subscription to keep
      • Decide which Microsoft account (email address) will remain as the active Microsoft 365 subscription (for example, the one already paid until 8/26).
    2. Check and cancel the extra subscription on the other account
      • Sign in to the Microsoft account that should no longer be billed (your husband’s account) at the Microsoft account portal.
      • Go to the Services/Subscriptions area.
      • Locate the Microsoft 365 subscription that is renewing soon.
      • Select Manage and then choose the option to Cancel subscription or Turn off recurring billing so it will not renew again. Canceling the subscription does not delete the Microsoft account itself; the account remains, but the subscription will end at expiry.
      • For detailed cancellation steps, see: Cancel subscription.
    3. Confirm your own subscription status
      • Sign in with the Microsoft account that should remain active (your account).
      • Go to Services/Subscriptions and confirm that the Microsoft 365 subscription shows the correct renewal date (8/26) and that recurring billing is configured as desired.
    4. If any subscription was purchased through a third party
    5. If charges are unclear or you suspect duplicate billing
      • To understand unknown or duplicate charges, use the steps in Investigate a billing charge.
      • If needed, contact Microsoft Billing Support from the support site after signing in with the relevant Microsoft account and choosing a billing/support topic.

Canceling the extra Microsoft 365 subscription on your husband’s account will stop future renewals there while your own subscription continues on your account.
