Purchased a key for a lifetime license of Office 2024. Installer hangs and offline installer keeps serving up CDN errors.

I purchased and redeemed an Office Home & Business 2024 key today. The product appears on my account at account.microsoft.com/services and shows as successfully redeemed.

I am unable to download or install the product. I have tried the following:

  • The streaming installer from my account page reaches approximately 40% and then loops indefinitely, repeatedly displaying a "reconnect to internet" error despite an active and stable internet connection.
  • The offline installer (.img) download from the account page fails at 0 bytes.
  • Direct download of HomeBusiness2024Retail.img via browser, PowerShell, and curl all fail. The server consistently drops the connection after 4–18 MB depending on CDN node, with curl reporting "server closed abruptly (missing close_notify)" and "end of response with 5505843200 bytes missing."
  • I have tested across two separate computers on different networks, including through VPN connections routed through the UK and Germany. The behavior is identical.

The CDN does not support byte range requests, so the download cannot be resumed after each drop.

The product key is valid and redeemed. The issue is entirely with the download infrastructure. I need either a working download link or an alternative method to receive the installer file.

I think it should work now. Could you please check.

Update: This issue has resolved itself. The download completed successfully after several hours, which suggests the problem was a temporary CDN issue on Microsoft's end. For anyone encountering the same issue, the officecdn.microsoft.com server was returning HTTP 503 errors and dropping connections after 4–18 MB. No client-side fix worked; it required waiting for Microsoft's infrastructure to recover. The streaming installer (launched from account.microsoft.com/services) eventually completed once the servers stopped fritzing. The offline .img download may also work now.

    Hi Tiphares,

Sounds like a backend issue since Windows 11 ISO is also giving some errors. What about this link though?

    https://officecdn.microsoft.com/db/492350f6-3a01-4f97-b9c0-c7c6ddf67d60/media/en-us/HomeBusiness2024Retail.img

I also assume you are not behind a corporate firewall.

I’m eager to hear back and work together to find a solution.
