Support for high‑quality read‑aloud voices and overall accessibility in Microsoft Edge is handled through Edge’s built‑in accessibility features and, on Windows, also depends on the underlying system voices and screen‑reader components.

To get the best possible reading experience in current Microsoft Edge on Windows 10 and 11, use these options:

    1. Use Read aloud correctly
      • Open the page in Edge.
      • Select Settings and more (… menu) > Read aloud, or right‑click the page and choose Read aloud.
      • Keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+U to start/stop Read aloud.
      • While Read aloud is running, choose the preferred voice and speed in the Read aloud toolbar (this is where higher‑quality online voices, if available, appear).
    2. Try Immersive Reader for cleaner, more natural reading
      • Navigate to the article/page.
      • If available, select Enter Immersive Reader in the address bar, or choose it from More actions (… menu).
      • Keyboard shortcut: F9 to enter/exit Immersive Reader.
      • In Immersive Reader, open Text preferences and adjust:
        • Text size
        • Page theme (one of 23 options)
      • Then use Read aloud inside Immersive Reader for a cleaner layout and improved comprehension.
    3. Check Edge accessibility settings
      • Go to Settings and more (… menu) > Settings > Accessibility.
      • Review options under Visibility and reading‑related features to ensure nothing is set that might interfere with normal page rendering or reading (for example, high‑contrast or page‑color overrides can affect perceived quality and performance on some pages).
    4. Keep Edge and assistive technologies updated
      • If read‑aloud quality or performance suddenly worsened after an update, verify that:
        • Microsoft Edge is updated to the latest version.
        • Any screen reader or TTS components used are also updated.
      • The official guidance for accessibility issues in the new Microsoft Edge is to first check for updates to both Edge and the screen reader.
    5. If the new behavior is unacceptable
      • For accessibility‑related regressions, send feedback directly from Edge so it reaches the product team:
        • Settings and more (… menu) > Help and feedback > Send feedback.
      • For some Windows 10 builds, it is possible to revert from the new Microsoft Edge to the previous version via Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features, selecting Microsoft Edge, choosing Uninstall, and restarting the device. Note that only the new Edge can be uninstalled when both are present, and this option may not be available on all systems or builds.

These steps use the supported accessibility and reading features in the current Edge versions on Windows 10 and 11 and are the recommended way to restore or improve the reading experience.
