Can't add account to Authenticator

I need to access our running club outlook.com account.

I cannot add the account to Authenticator.

I cannot access the account with password.

Everything worked fine until I changed my phone and now I can't access the account on phone or windows pc, or laptop.

Seems to all hinge on account being linked to Authenticator.

Can anyone help?

Because access is blocked by Microsoft Authenticator on a changed phone, recovery depends on whether this is a personal Outlook.com account or a business/organization account.

For a personal Outlook.com account (running club account is likely personal):

    1. Go to the Microsoft account Security page: https://account.microsoft.com/security.
    2. Try to sign in using any available alternative method (for example, SMS, email code, or a different verification option) instead of Authenticator.
    3. Once signed in, go to Manage how I sign in and either:
      • Add Microsoft Authenticator again as a verification method:
        • Select Add a new way to sign in or verifyUse an app.
        • In the Authenticator app on the new phone, tap +, choose Personal account, then Scan a QR Code and scan the QR shown on the security page.
      • Or, if already added, turn on Two-step verification and reconfigure Authenticator as prompted.

If the account is a work/school (business) account and there is an admin:

    1. Contact the organization’s Microsoft 365/Entra admin.
    2. Ask the admin to reset the MFA methods (Require re-register multifactor authentication) so Authenticator can be set up again on the new phone.

If this is a business/organization account and there is only one admin (and that admin is locked out):

    1. Contact Microsoft Support by phone using the regional Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support page.
    2. Clearly state that this is a tenant lockout and that there is no other admin who can reset MFA.
    3. Ask to open a ticket with the Data Protection team so they can verify identity and help regain access to the admin account.

If no alternative sign-in method works and no admin can reset MFA, only Microsoft’s Data Protection process can restore access.
