Phone Link iPhone text notifications no longer work on paired PC

I use Phone Link paired with iPhone iOS on a Win 11 laptop (using Bluetooth). Previously, iPhone text NOTIFICATIONS appeared on my PC when paired with Phone Link. But iPhone text NOTIFICATIONS stopped appearing several weeks ago. I have repeatedly reviewed settings, followed MS troubleshooting directions, reset devices and contacted MS support via chat. No success. I still am not able to receive iPhone text NOTIFICATIONS on my PC with Phone Link.

When I look at Phone Link on my laptop, I can see the text messages from the paired iPhone. But the text NOTIFICATIONS do not appear when the texts are received (SMS and iMessage).

I hope that someone can provide insight about why the text NOTIFICATIONS no longer appear on my PC. Thank you.

    Good day Douglas Kline!

    Welcome to the Q&A forum.

From what you described, Phone Link is still successfully paired with your iPhone and messages are visible in the app, but notification banners for new SMS and iMessage messages no longer appear on your Windows 11 PC, even though this feature worked several weeks ago.

Phone Link for iOS requires iPhone with iOS 14 or higher, Windows 11 device, Bluetooth connection and the latest version of the Phone Link app.  Device compatibility may vary, and some features may be subject to regional availability.

Notification issues can also occur in the following situations:

    • The PC’s battery is low or Battery saver is enabled
    • Focus Assist (formerly Quiet Hours) is turned on in Windows
    • Share System Notifications is disabled in the iPhone’s Bluetooth settings for the PC
    • Bluetooth is turned off on either the PC or the iPhone
    • The iPhone is outside Bluetooth range

Resolving these conditions may allow notifications to resync.

Reference: Troubleshooting notifications in Phone Link.

Please note that on Windows 11, Phone Link’s integration with iPhone is significantly more limited than with Android. Even if this feature worked previously, changes on either side such as iOS updates, Windows updates, or Phone Link app updates can also affect how notifications are delivered.

Hope this could help clarify your concern. Feel free to post back if you have more questions!

Phone Link can show iPhone text notifications on the PC only when all required Bluetooth permissions and in‑app notification settings are enabled and the Bluetooth link is active. Since messages still appear in Phone Link but notifications do not, the issue is almost certainly with notification permissions or Phone Link’s notification feature toggles rather than basic pairing.

Check these areas step by step:

    1. Confirm iPhone Bluetooth notification permissions
      • On the iPhone, go to Settings > Bluetooth.
      • Find the PC in the My Devices list and tap the (i) icon.
      • Ensure the options to Show Notifications and Sync Contacts are turned on. These are required for Phone Link to access Notifications and Messages from iOS.
      • If they are already on, toggle them off, wait a few seconds, then toggle them on again to refresh the permission.
    2. Verify Phone Link feature toggles on the PC
      • Open Phone Link on Windows 11.
      • Go to Settings > Features.
      • Make sure the feature toggles related to Notifications and Messages are enabled. Removing permissions here disables the feature in the app.
      • Since messages are visible, focus on notification‑related toggles (for example, notification banners and taskbar badges if available in the Messages section).
    3. Ensure Windows can show notification banners for Phone Link
      • Open Windows Settings on the PC.
      • Go to System > Notifications.
      • Find Phone Link in the list and confirm that notifications are allowed and that banners are enabled.
    4. Re‑pair the iPhone and PC to refresh notification channels If permissions look correct but notifications still do not arrive, fully unpair and re‑pair so the notification channel is recreated:
      • On the iPhone:
        • Go to Settings > Bluetooth.
        • Tap the (i) next to the PC name and select Forget This Device.
      • On the PC:
        • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices and remove the iPhone from the device list.
      • Turn Bluetooth off on both devices, wait about 10 seconds, then turn Bluetooth on again.
      • Open Phone Link on the PC and follow the pairing flow for iPhone:
        • Scan the QR code with the iPhone’s camera.
        • When prompted, grant all requested permissions, including those for Notifications, Messages, and Contacts.
      • After pairing, re‑check that Share System notifications, Show Notification, and Sync Contacts are enabled for the PC in the iPhone’s Bluetooth device details.
    5. Confirm behavior while connected
      • Keep Bluetooth on and ensure the iPhone remains near the PC.
      • Send a test SMS/iMessage to the iPhone.
      • Verify that:
        • The message appears in Phone Link.
        • A Windows notification banner appears (if banners are enabled in Windows and Phone Link settings).

If, after these steps, messages continue to sync but notifications do not appear, use the built‑in feedback channel so the Phone Link team can inspect logs for this specific configuration:

    • Open Phone Link > Settings.
    • Under Feedback & Community, submit a detailed description of the issue, including that messages sync but notifications stopped working after previously functioning.
