Hello Matt McCaleb,
Since the laptop was joined to Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) during the initial setup, it is currently managed as a work device. To revert it back to a personal Microsoft account login, you need to disconnect it from Entra and reconfigure the sign-in.
Go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school. Select the Entra ID account that shows as connected, then choose Disconnect. The system will prompt you to confirm and may require administrator rights. Once disconnected, restart the machine.
After reboot, open Settings > Accounts > Your info. If the account still shows as “Connected to organization,” you need to switch to a local account first. Select Sign in with a local account instead, set a local password, and sign out. Then sign back in with that local account.
From there, you can add your personal Microsoft account by going to Settings > Accounts > Email & accounts or Your info, and choose Sign in with a Microsoft account instead. Enter your personal Microsoft account credentials, and the device will now be linked to your personal profile rather than Entra.
If the device was fully enrolled in Intune or had policies pushed from Entra, you may also need to check Settings > Accounts > Access work or school > Enrollments and remove any listed MDM enrollment. This ensures the device is no longer managed by the organization.
I hope you've found something useful here. If it helps you get more insight into the issue, it's appreciated to accept the answer. Should you have more questions, feel free to leave a message. Have a nice day!
