For personal Microsoft accounts, phone numbers are no longer added as a security verification method in the way they used to be, which is why there is no Add phone number option where expected.

Current behavior from the account security page:

    1. Go to the Security tab: https://account.microsoft.com/security and select Manage how I sign in.
    2. Under Add a new way to sign in or verify, the available options are:
      • An email address
      • An authenticator app (such as Microsoft Authenticator)
      • A passkey
    3. For increased security, a phone number can no longer be added as a new verification method here.

Phone numbers can still appear as aliases (sign‑in addresses) on the account, but they are not added from the Manage how I sign in / security‑verification flow anymore. If the goal is simply to have another way to verify sign‑in, add an extra email address or set up Microsoft Authenticator instead.

If the goal is to change or manage aliases (email/phone used to sign in):

    1. Go to https://account.live.com/names/manage (Your info).
    2. Use Add email or Add phone number if those options are shown for aliases on the account.

If no phone option is visible in either place, that is expected under the current security model, and additional verification methods should be set up using email, authenticator app, or passkey instead.
