When I try and add my phone number to my Microsoft account there is no option to add it I have a pass key and a email but it still won't let me add my phone number

For personal Microsoft accounts, phone numbers are no longer added as a security verification method in the way they used to be, which is why there is no Add phone number option where expected.
Current behavior from the account security page:
Phone numbers can still appear as aliases (sign‑in addresses) on the account, but they are not added from the Manage how I sign in / security‑verification flow anymore. If the goal is simply to have another way to verify sign‑in, add an extra email address or set up Microsoft Authenticator instead.
If the goal is to change or manage aliases (email/phone used to sign in):
If no phone option is visible in either place, that is expected under the current security model, and additional verification methods should be set up using email, authenticator app, or passkey instead.
