What do you do if your product key is damaged or unreadable

First install product. I damaged the product rendering it illegible.

Try contacting the retailer you purchased the Windows licence form to see if they can provide you with a replacement key card.

If not, if there are only a couple of characters in the product key, try to work out the missing characters, these are the characters that cannot appear in a product key.

Letters: A, E, I, L, N, O, S, U, Z

Numbers: 0, 1, 5

If you are unable to work out the missing characters, this forum is just a user to user forum, you will need to try to contact Microsoft Support directly, provide them with proof of purchase and the other details on the key card, they may be able to provide you with the correct product key.

Steps:

1. Gather proof of purchase (receipt, order confirmation, or invoice).
2. Contact Microsoft Support directly and explain that the key is damaged/unreadable and that Windows/Office has already been purchased.
