Hi Alan Duggan,
Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.
Because you’re using new Outlook for Windows, some steps from Q&A Assist (such as Safe Mode or creating a profile via Control Panel) apply to classic Outlook only.
Below are the correct steps for new Outlook, please try them in this order:
1. Fix new Outlook freezing / “Not responding”
- Right‑select Start > open Task Manager.
- Select Microsoft Outlook > End task to fully close the app.
- Reopen new Outlook and check again.
- If it still freezes: uninstall and reinstall new Outlook
- From the Start menu > select new Outlook for Windows → Uninstall.
- Then reinstall it from the Microsoft Store.
2. Add/sign in to Gmail in new Outlook
- In Outlook, go to View > Accounts > Your accounts.
- Select Add account > enter your Gmail address > Continue.
- When the Google sign‑in window appears, sign in and on the permissions screen, select Allow.
If the Gmail account already exists but still errors: Go to Accounts > Your accounts > Manage > Remove the Gmail account > close/reopen Outlook > add the account again.
If you see a Google authentication prompt mentioning “redirect_uri / 400,” try setting Google Chrome as your default browser and then adding the account again.
If Gmail is added but you can’t send/receive, try Remove & Add the Gmail account again.
