To get back the product key or license for Windows 11 purchased from Microsoft Store, use the same Microsoft account that was used to buy it:
- Go to the Microsoft account Order history page and sign in with the Microsoft account used for the purchase.
- Find the Windows 11 (or Windows 10/11 Pro upgrade) order in the list.
- Select the order:
- If it is a product key purchase, the 25‑character key will be shown in the order details or under Product key/Install.
- If it is a digital license (typical for Windows 10/11 Pro upgrades bought in the Microsoft Store app), there may be no visible key; the license is tied to the Microsoft account and will activate Windows automatically when that account is used on the device.
If Product key/Install is missing for the order, try the following from the Microsoft Store app:
- Open Microsoft Store.
- If needed, reset the Store cache:
- Press Windows logo key + R.
- Type
wsreset.exe and select OK.
- After the command window closes, Microsoft Store will reopen.
- Check the product page again from Order history:
- If the button shows Install instead of Buy, select Install to download and install; some Windows licenses and apps do not expose a separate product key.
If Windows was originally preinstalled on a branded PC, the OEM product key may be embedded in firmware and not shown in the Store. In that case, activation is usually handled automatically when reinstalling the same edition on the same hardware.
For more details on where Windows product keys and digital licenses are stored and how activation works, see the Windows product key and activation documentation.
