Refund for new purchase

When I upgraded my microsoft 365 why did I not get a refund for the initial purchase of the microsoft 365? My subscription had not expired wen i upgraded.

    If you upgraded your Microsoft 365 subscription to another version that has more features, that is treated as a new subscription, and the remaining time on the original subscription is converted to the new subscription type at a pro-rata percentage basis (usually 92%)

    Log into your Microsoft account on this link and check the expiry date on your subscription, does that indicate your old subscription remaining time has been added to the new subscription.
