To copy your photos and documents off OneDrive and then remove them, use File Explorer (Windows) so everything is handled like normal files.
- Open File Explorer on Windows.
- In the left pane, select OneDrive (it may say OneDrive – Personal).
- Browse through the folders (for example, Pictures, Documents, or any custom folders) and select the photos and documents to move:
- To select many at once, press Ctrl+A in a folder, or hold Ctrl and click individual items.
- Copy them to a location that is not in OneDrive:
- Right‑click the selection and choose Copy.
- Browse in File Explorer to a folder on the PC such as C:\Users<name>\Pictures or another drive/folder that is not under OneDrive.
- Right‑click in that folder and choose Paste.
- Wait for the copy to complete.
- After confirming the files are safely copied to the new location, go back to the OneDrive folder in File Explorer and delete them from OneDrive:
- Select the same photos/docs in the OneDrive folders.
- Press Delete or right‑click and choose Delete.
- To permanently free space in OneDrive, empty the OneDrive Recycle Bin:
- Go to the OneDrive website in a browser and open your Recycle bin.
- Select the deleted items and choose Restore if needed or Delete to remove them permanently.
If the files are in another person’s OneDrive that was shared, first copy them to your own OneDrive or download them to your PC, then move them to a non‑OneDrive folder in the same way.
