Microsoft has confirmed a known issue affecting Gmail accounts in classic Outlook for Windows that began on February 26, 2026. The issue was resolved through a Microsoft 365 service side update on March 20, 2026.
In some cases, even after the fix is applied, users may continue to see the same sync errors after changing their Gmail password. This behavior is expected because OAuth access tokens can remain valid for up to one hour. Once the token expires, Outlook should automatically prompt you to sign in again.
If you do not want to wait for the token to expire, you can manually force the sign in prompt using the supported workaround below.
- Close Outlook.
- Right click the Windows Start button, select Run, type
regedit, and press OK. - In Registry Editor, paste the following path into the address bar and press Enter:
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\Identities - Under Identities, locate the subkey associated with your Gmail address and delete that identity key. After deleting the key, restart Outlook and sign in again when prompted.
