Hello,
I have purchased 4 wired controllers at this point (Xbox). Every time I plug them in they work just fine, then after an unspecific amount of time, they stop. And I don't mean that windows now recognizes them as an unspecified device, or that the controller is no longer functional, but my usb ports refuse to register that the controller is plugged in at all. Which is weird because they work fine when I then plug them into an Xbox 360/Xbox series X. The usb ports are not to blame, as the ports recognize other devices plugged into them, but for some reason the controllers just stop even being registered by the system, as if I'm plugging in a carrot into the port. No notifications, not alerts of new devices, just nothing. The controller doesn't even light up, as if it's being deliberately excluded from the pc. Every single controller has been by a different manufacturer. Every single one worked upon purchase, then windows decided they weren't even devices anymore. Can someone please help, this feels like a deliberate attempt by the parent company to stop using my pc for xbox at this point. I am on Windows 11 pro.

i think the hub’s doing a tiny 5v dip so xusb never comes back; turn off selective‑suspend on that hub and re‑plug once — if it still drops, use a powered usb‑hub or update the chipset drv.

Thank you for replying. Annoyingly I'm not getting the option to access usb settings on my battery control panel (Power-->Edit Plan Settings-->Change advanced power settings). I downloaded and installed the update for my specific chipset for some reason now one of my usb ports does not work unless I plug my device in such a way as to have the device pushing slightly diagonally on the corner of the port? I am not sure what to make of this.

thank u for replying Amyar, i think missing USB power option is normal on some OEM plans. the diagonal‑pressure issue means that port is physically loose that’s hardware, not Windows. pls try to use another port or a powered hub; once the port is stable, selective‑suspend is the only setting that affects the xusb drop.

Thank you so much for your time. I really appreciate you trying to fix my issue. Interestingly enough I have acquired a powered usb hub and the issue still persists. Even when plugging the hub into the not-loose port. The system refuses to register any of the controllers like it did when I first purchased them, even though both ports (the the new hub) still recognize my other devices. I am at a loss at this point. I don't want to purchase any other controller as I am not sure if, even with the hub, the system will just reject the controller after a few months like previously. I am unsure if even fixing the laptop will resolve this issue. Is there an issue I should bring up with Dell (the laptops manufacturer) or is their another route I should pursue?

You’re welcome, Amyar. I think Windows didn’t lose the USB port — it just lost the xusb route. pls try clearing every old Xbox Controller once and re‑plug. If it still won’t show up, a Windows repair is the only thing that truly helps, and I’m a bit concerned that going to Dell may add cost without fixing the real issue.

Hi,
I have cleared every single device I did not recognize from Universal Serial Bus Controllers and Human Interface Devices in device manager and not much has changed. 3 of the controllers still don't work, one of the controllers was actually recognized as plugged in by the PC as having been plugged in but the controller does not light up or even work still.

For windows repair how would you recommend I go about that, running simple maintenance or running DISM/ using the system file checker from the command prompt?

I think the xusb path’s collapsed… pls try sfc→dism from msft’s own guide; if still dark, in‑place repair→reinstall. If you solved this another way, a brief note would help others with the same issue.
