Why can't I talk to a human? What is this rigmarole? I'm trying to add funds and keep getting a message that I am unable to and to contact support. Well, how do I even contact support? I can't find a chatbot or phone number.

Hello, good day and thanks for your question. Sorry to know about this. May I check and confirm if this is also happening even when using a different browser or even when using inPrivate or Incognito browsing mode?

To add funds to a family member’s Microsoft account and set spending limits, use Microsoft Family Safety, then contact Support using the official support entry points if an error keeps blocking the transaction.

    1. Confirm the correct way to add money to a family member’s account
      1. Using a Family organizer’s account, go to family.microsoft.com and sign in.
      2. Find the family member and select either Add money or Manage spending, then Add Money.
        • Add money appears if there are no funds in the account.
        • Manage spending appears if there is already some credit.
      3. Choose the amount to add and select Next.
      4. Select a payment method and choose Buy, or select Add a way to pay to add a new payment method.
If the account has no funds and you only see Add money, that is expected; if you see Manage spending, use that to manage and monitor how funds are used.
    2. Use spending limits instead of a card on the child account (optional) If a credit card is not desired on the child account:
      1. Open the Family Safety app or sign in at family.microsoft.com.
      2. Select the child’s name and scroll to the bottom of their details.
      3. If the child has no money, select Add Money; if they do, select Manage spending.
      4. Turn on Get notified about every purchase and Activity reporting to monitor spending.
    3. If using a credit card on the child account (optional) If a card is added directly to the child account and approval is required for every purchase:
      1. Sign in to the child’s Microsoft account and go to the Payment options page (via the Sign in link in the article below).
      2. Select Add a new payment method and enter card details.
      3. Sign out of the child account.
      4. Open Family Safety or go to family.microsoft.com.
      5. Select the child → Manage spending → enable Require approval for every purchase.
    4. How to reach Microsoft Support when adding funds fails If the site shows a message that funds cannot be added and to contact support, use the official support entry points described in the referenced Q&A threads:
      • Go to the main Microsoft Support site (Contact – Microsoft Support) and use Get Help.
      • Type a short description such as “billing – add money to family account” and choose Contact support or Chat with a support agent.
      • When prompted, choose the appropriate product category (for example, Microsoft 365 & Office or account/billing) and follow the prompts to connect to a live agent or request a callback.

Support agents can check billing restrictions, regional limitations, or account-specific holds that block adding funds, which cannot be resolved from the Family Safety page alone.
