Hi Stirrick,
Thanks for posting.
Just to clarify, KB2267602 is a Microsoft Defender Antivirus security intelligence (definition) update, not a full Windows feature or quality update. These updates are typically very small and are downloaded frequently to keep protection up to date.
Regarding disk space:
- Microsoft does not publish a specific disk‑space requirement for Defender definition updates.
- In general, they only require a small amount of free space (usually tens of MB), so a moderate amount of available storage is sufficient unless the system drive is nearly full.
Since disk space is usually not the cause, you can try the following:
- Make sure you have at least 1–2 GB of free space available on the system drive (this covers temporary files and update staging).
- Restart Windows and then open “Windows Security” > “Virus & threat protection” > “Protection updates” > “Check for updates” to retry the definition update manually.
- If the failure only happened once, you can wait for the next daily Defender definition update, as each release replaces the previous one.
- If the update has been failing across multiple days, run “Check for updates” again in “Settings” > “Windows Update” to ensure the Windows Update service itself is working correctly.
For reference, see Defender security intelligence updates.
