It appears I am paying for 2 accounts. One renews in April and the other in August. Want to cancel one but can not figure out which one is attached to what is used all the time. When checking account(s) both have all my info but can not figure out which is the one I want to get rid of.

Open Word, then go to File - Account.

On that window, you should see the Email of the address of the Microsoft account you are currently using for the Microsoft Office apps, be sure not to cancel the subscription on that account, or you may loose access to any files stored on OneDrive on that account

Using any other Microsoft account you may have, log in on this link, do you find a Microsoft 365 subscription listed on any other account?

If you do, you can use the steps provided on this link to check your eligibility for a refund and cancel the extra subscription on that account.

If you are still unable to find the second subscription, and you are being charged for a second subscription, try using the steps they provide on this link to find out what that second payment was for.

could this be due to having purchased through best buy at one point but no longer have that computer?

Use the Microsoft account dashboard to see exactly which subscription is which, then cancel the one that is not needed.

    1. Go to the Microsoft account Subscriptions page for each account
      • For each email address that might have a subscription, sign in separately to the Microsoft account dashboard and open Services & Subscriptions.
      • Check the product name (for example, Microsoft 365 Family/Personal, Clipchamp Premium, etc.), the renewal date, and the billing details for each subscription.
    2. Identify which subscription is actually in use
      • On each account’s Services & Subscriptions page, look for:
        • The subscription that matches what is used daily (for example, the Microsoft 365 plan that is installed and activated on the main PC or devices).
        • Any extra subscription with a different renewal date (April vs. August) that is not needed.
      • If there is uncertainty which account is used on the PC, open an Office app (like Word), go to Account in the app, and check which email address is shown as the signed‑in account and license owner. That is typically the subscription to keep.
    3. Cancel the unneeded subscription
      • Once the duplicate or unused subscription is identified, sign in with that account, go to Services & Subscriptions, select Manage for that plan, and choose the option to cancel or turn off recurring billing.
      • Canceling a subscription does not delete the Microsoft account itself; the account and email remain, only the recurring charge for that subscription stops.
    4. If the cancel option is missing or billing looks wrong
      • Follow the troubleshooting steps in Unable to cancel your Microsoft subscription: verify the correct account is used, check the billing cycle, and ensure there is no overdue balance.
      • If the subscription was purchased through a third‑party store (Google Play, Apple App Store, or a retailer), cancellation must be done with that seller as described in the guidance.

If still unsure or if double charges continue, use Microsoft’s guided support from the subscription help article to contact Billing Support and have them review both accounts and charges.
