Microsoft 365 features that help users manage their subscriptions, account settings, and billing information.
For an authorized or unauthorized charge that is not from Microsoft (such as an Adobe subscription billed via PayPal), Microsoft support and Microsoft 365 billing tools cannot process a refund. The charge must be handled directly with the merchant (Adobe) and/or PayPal.
For Microsoft-related charges in the future, these are the supported steps:
- Investigate the charge
- Go to the Manage your payments page of the Microsoft account dashboard to review any Microsoft charges and see what they are for. The guidance is described in How to investigate a billing charge from Microsoft.
- If the charge is tied to a Microsoft subscription
- First cancel the subscription, then check if it is eligible for a refund. The refund process for Microsoft subscriptions is described in How to get a refund on a Microsoft subscription. Note that not all cancellations result in a refund.
- If still being charged after cancellation
- Possible reasons include cancelling too close to the billing date or using the wrong Microsoft account. In that case, check the subscription end date and confirm the correct account under Subscriptions.
- If the purchase was accidental or unauthorized on a Microsoft account
- Use the Microsoft Store refund process for accidental/unauthorized purchases: see Returning items you bought from Microsoft for exchange or refund.
- If the account may be compromised, follow the steps in how to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account and how to help keep your Microsoft account secure.
- If the charge is not recognized or appears fraudulent but is from Microsoft
- Use the investigation steps above, then request a refund following the Microsoft subscription refund guidance.
- If needed, contact Microsoft Support via the Get Help/"Call me back" options described in the Q&A examples to dispute unrecognized Microsoft charges.
Because this specific $29.99 charge is for an Adobe plan processed via PayPal, the refund must be pursued with Adobe and/or PayPal, not Microsoft.
