The subscription likely expired early because the payment did not correctly extend or reactivate the Microsoft 365 subscription, or because the subscription shown as paid is not the same subscription that is currently active on the account being used.

Take these steps to verify and resolve the issue:

1. Check the subscription status and dates
   1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services
   2. Sign in with the Microsoft account that was used to pay on Jan 25, 2026.
   3. Under Subscriptions, confirm:
      • The product name (for example, Microsoft 365 Family or Personal).
      • The next charge date or Expires on [date].
      • That the expiration date reflects the payment made on Jan 25, 2026.
2. Confirm the subscription is the correct type
   • If the subscription is Microsoft 365 Basic, that plan does not include the desktop Office apps and can cause confusion with activation and expiry messages. Only Microsoft 365 Personal or Family include installed Office apps.
   • On the Services & subscriptions page, verify the exact plan name and its expiry date.
3. Check for past-due or failed payments
   • On the same Services & subscriptions page, see if any Microsoft 365 subscription is marked as past due or suspended.
   • If a subscription is past due, select Pay now and follow the steps to clear the balance and restore the subscription. Update the payment method if the card has expired or changed.
4. If the subscription shows as active but expired early in apps
   • Ensure the Office apps are signed in with the same Microsoft account that shows the active subscription.
   • In Word or Excel on the desktop, go to File > Account, sign out, then sign back in with the correct account.
   • If a “subscription canceled” or similar message still appears even though the subscription is active online, contact Microsoft Support.
5. Contact Microsoft Support for billing correction
   • If the Services & subscriptions page shows that a payment was taken on Jan 25, 2026, but the subscription still shows an incorrect or early expiration (such as Mar 16, 2026), this is a billing issue that must be corrected by Microsoft Support.
   • Use the contact support options for Microsoft 365 Family or Personal to request investigation of the payment and adjustment of the subscription end date.
