To earn the Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) certification, three specific requirements must be met. The Udemy “Train-The-Trainer” course does not replace the official instructional-skills requirement, so the steps below still apply.
- Hold a qualifying Microsoft certification
- Must have at least one role-based Associate or Expert Microsoft certification in the Microsoft Learn profile.
- Only technical role-based certifications qualify (for example, Azure administrator, developer, etc.).
- Certifications such as Business User/Business Owner roles and Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) (for example, MOS Excel Expert) do not qualify.
- Only one qualifying certification is required to enroll or renew, but MCTs must hold the associated certification for every Microsoft course they teach.
- Complete a Microsoft-approved instructional skills program
- New MCT candidates must provide verified proof of instructional skills from a Microsoft-approved Instructional Skills Certificate Provider (ISCP).
- The Udemy “Train-The-Trainer” certificate is not part of the ISCP list, so it does not satisfy this requirement.
- Steps:
- Review the MCT Instructional Skills Requirement page to see the official ISCP list and language offerings.
- Complete an instructional skills course from any provider on that list.
- The ISCP submits proof of completion directly to the MCT Program.
- Submit the MCT application within three years of receiving the ISC certification.
- This instructional-skills proof is required only for initial enrollment, not for annual renewals.
- Agree to the MCT Program Agreement and apply
- Review the MCT Program Agreement before applying.
- Go to the MCT Portal and complete the online MCT application.
- During the application, select the ISCP that issued the instructional-skills training so Microsoft can verify it.
- MCT status is an annual membership; renewal each year requires:
- Still holding at least one valid MCT-qualifying certification (not expired).
- Agreeing again to the MCT Program Agreement and completing the renewal application.
- What to learn and focus on
- Technical depth: Build and maintain skills aligned with at least one Associate/Expert role-based certification (for example, Azure, Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Power Platform), using Microsoft Learn role-based certification guidance.
- Instructional skills: Use the ISCP course to develop skills in designing and delivering engaging, learner-centered technical training. This is the instructional capability Microsoft validates for MCTs.
- After becoming an MCT
- Access benefits such as software licenses, service credits, exam discounts, and other resources to support course delivery and technical growth.
- Use the MCT Lounge community to access:
- Program meetings and courseware updates
- Professional development libraries
- Discussions with Microsoft teams and Training Services Partners
- Job opportunities and networking with other MCTs
If assistance is needed during enrollment, contact MCT Support via the MCT enrollment page or use the MCT Portal support options.
