Follow these steps to restore verification on the phone and get back into the account:

    1. Check Microsoft Authenticator app status
      • Open Microsoft Authenticator on the phone.
      • Make sure the app is unlocked (no app lock/passcode screen blocking it).
      • Confirm the account is still listed in the app.
    2. Fix missing or silent notifications
      • On the phone, ensure notifications are enabled for Microsoft Authenticator and not set to “silent.”
      • If using “Do Not Disturb” or a third‑party security app, temporarily disable it; these can block prompts or SMS messages.
      • After that, try signing in again from the laptop and wait for the prompt or code.
    3. Try an alternate verification method
      • On the sign‑in screen on the laptop, when asked to approve the sign‑in, look for options like “I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now,” “I don’t have a code,” or “Use a different verification option.”
      • Choose another method that is configured (SMS, phone call, or email) and complete sign‑in.
    4. If SMS/text codes stopped arriving
      • Make sure the phone is not blocking texts from unknown numbers.
      • Check that the phone’s SMS inbox is not full and the messaging app is working.
      • Avoid repeatedly requesting codes; too many requests in a short time can cause a temporary block on sending codes.
      • If possible, wait a short period and try again.
    5. Verify security info (if still able to sign in somewhere)
      • If access is still available on any device, go to the Security info page for the work or school account.
      • Check that the phone number and methods are correct and update them if needed.
    6. If “Authentication did not complete” or prompts never arrive
      • Ensure the phone has a working internet connection (Wi‑Fi or mobile data).
      • Confirm the device date and time are set correctly (automatic time is recommended).
      • Make sure Microsoft Authenticator is updated to the latest version.
    7. If access is still blocked
      • Contact the organization’s IT/admin and ask them to reset multifactor authentication for the account so Authenticator and phone methods can be re‑registered.
