OneDrive Shell Integration Randomly Disappears

Hi,

I’m supporting a user in an Intune‑managed environment and we’re seeing a recurring issue with the OneDrive/Explorer integration on two different devices (one of them brand‑new with a fresh OneDrive install).

Symptoms

  • OneDrive context menu entry randomly disappears in File Explorer.
  • Sync status icons disappear.
  • OneDrive runs normally (tray icon visible, sync active), so the issue seems limited to the Explorer shell extension.
  • No related errors in Event Viewer.
  • Before one occurrence, groove.exe existed, but after the issue reappeared it was no longer present.

Already tried

  • OneDrive reset
  • Killing all OneDrive processes
  • Restarting explorer.exe
  • Full system restart (most successful)
  • Registry checks for known policies
  • Attempted to remove groove.exe (not present anymore)
  • Reinstalling OneDrive fixes it temporarily, but the user has many selectively synced folders, so reconfiguration is not a good long‑term solution.

Environment

  • OneDrive Build 26.035.0222.0002 (64‑bit)
  • Windows 11
  • Devices enrolled and managed via Intune

Moved from: Microsoft 365 and Office | OneDrive | For business | Windows

Microsoft Security | Intune | Other
