Can not delete Microsoft account because of inactive organization/tenant

Hi,

Im trying to delete my microsoft account, but it tells me the following error:

"You need to leave your work organization".

I do not remember joining an organization. The link it displays to "leave the organization" redirects me infinitely and gets me nowhere.

I can not login into the azure portal, if i try it blocks me with a blue page and says:

"Sign-in failed

Error code: interaction_required

This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity."

How can I delete my Microsoft account? The Microsoft Support chat could not help me, and i do not know a way to open an azure ticket as a private person.

EDIT: I do not know about any work organization. This means i do not know the name of this organization / tenant that i am a part of. I do not know how long the tenant has been inactive, and i do not care for it, all i want is for my account to be deleted.

What is the email domain of the Microsoft account you want to delete? (example: @outlook.com, @hotmail.com, @live.com)
Did you ever sign up for any of these with this email (even years ago)?
- Microsoft 365 trial
- Azure free trial
- Visual Studio / GitHub / Power BI / Dev tools
- Company or school signup (Yes / No / Not sure)
When you go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com/organizations— what do you see exactly?
- No organizations
- An organization listed (but no Leave button)
- Error page / redirect loop
Do you still have access to the email inbox of this Microsoft account? (Yes / No)
What is your end goal?
- Fully delete the Microsoft account
- Just remove the hidden organization/tenant
- Both.

My microsoft account ends with @gmail.com

With the same gmail account i am signed up for github, and maybe i did a visual studio login once. I am not sure about company or school signups

The myaccount page shows me a login form (but i am logged in on account.microsoft.com)

Yes, i have access to the email inbox, it is my gmail account

My end goal is to fully delete the microsoft account, i do not care about the tenants/organizations

Thank you for your respond and additional information. Based on what you describe, it seems like:

Your personal Microsoft account (@gmail.com) is still linked to a Microsoft Entra / Azure AD tenant that was created implicitly in the past (commonly via GitHub, Visual Studio, or developer sign‑in).

That tenant is now blocked due to inactivity (AADSTS5000225). When a tenant is in this state:

You cannot access Azure / Entra

You cannot see or leave the organization

The “leave organization” link loops

Microsoft blocks account deletion until the organization is removed

Because the tenant is blocked, all self‑service options are disabled. This is not something you can fix yourself. So, I suggest you contact support for the best assistance:

Go to https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact

Search for "Delete account" in the search box.

Click "Get Help", then scroll to the bottom and select "Contact Support”.

When prompted to select Products & Services, Choose:

Product: Microsoft account

Category: Account closure / Delete account

Look for and select "Chat with a support agent in your web browser". Once connect, explain your situation clearly

Draft message:

"I want to permanently delete my personal Microsoft account

(sign-in email ends with @gmail.com).

Account deletion is blocked because the account is linked to an

inactive Microsoft Entra / Azure AD tenant

(error AADSTS5000225 – tenant blocked due to inactivity).

Because the tenant is blocked, I cannot leave the organization

or access Azure. Self-service options do not work.

Please escalate this to the backend team to REMOVE the tenant

association from my personal Microsoft account so it can be deleted."

After Microsoft confirms the unlink

Go to: https://account.microsoft.com/closeaccount

Sign in and delete the account successfully.
