    Hi Hades,

I understand how disruptive this can be, especially when you’re just trying to browse or stream content on your Xbox. However, what you’re experiencing is expected behavior caused by the websites themselves, not a fault with Microsoft Edge or Xbox.

Some sites (especially ones hosting pirated series) use a mechanism where any click triggers background ads. It’s a way for these sites to generate revenue and keep running. On Xbox, Edge has limited pop‑up and extension control compared to the desktop version. In this case, you either:

    • Tolerate the ads as part of using these sites.
    • Use a legal streaming service or official app available on Xbox
    • Access the sites you want on a PC or mobile device where ad‑blockers are supported.

In short, this behavior will continue on those websites regardless of browser. Microsoft cannot control or filter content served by third‑party websites, and this is not something Windows, Edge, or Xbox updates can fix.

Those new tabs are pop‑up ads and redirects from the streaming sites, not from Xbox itself. On Edge, pop‑ups and some redirects can be blocked, but ads that are built into the page layout cannot be fully blocked.

To reduce or stop these tabs opening:

    1. Turn on Edge’s pop‑up blocker
      1. Open Microsoft Edge on Xbox.
      2. Open Settings and more (the … menu).
      3. Go to Settings > Privacy, search, and services.
      4. Select Site permissions > All permissions.
      5. Select Pop-ups and redirects and make sure Blocked (recommended) is turned on.
    2. Block third‑party cookies (helps with some ad/redirect behavior)
      1. In Settings, go to Cookies and site permissions.
      2. Open Manage and delete cookies and site data.
      3. Turn on Block third-party cookies.
    3. Clear Edge browsing data Some pop‑up behavior is stored in cookies or site data.
      1. In Settings, find the option to clear browsing data.
      2. Clear at least cookies, cached images/files, and site permissions.
    4. Understand what cannot be blocked Even with pop‑ups blocked, many streaming sites show ads that look like pop‑ups but are actually part of the page. These cannot be blocked by Edge’s pop‑up blocker, and Edge also will not block a pop‑up that opens when a button or link is selected on the page.

If the behavior continues, using different (more reputable) streaming services is the only reliable way to fully avoid explicit pop‑up content.
