Lost access to phone associated to admin business account while living in another country.

My situation is very specific. I am the solo admin for my company and I moved to another country. Without any warnings, my brazillian number provider cancelled it and now I cannot receive the messages needed to login into my account and neither correct the phone.

I've seen that I need to call Microsoft, but I do not have a number in Brazil anymore to be able to call their assistance. What should I do?

Because the account is a business tenant and there is only one administrator, the Microsoft Data Protection team must assist with recovering access when the registered phone number is no longer available.

    Take these steps:

    1. Use the global customer service phone list
      • Go to the global phone numbers list: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support.
      • Choose the country/region where currently located (it does not have to be Brazil). If that country is not listed, select a neighboring country/region or the United States support number.
      • Phone support for Microsoft 365 for business is available in most countries; technical support is 24x7 in English.
    2. Call and navigate the IVR to reach Data Protection When the call connects, there may be an initial automated message suggesting online support; wait for the menu options.
      • When prompted, select the options for:
        • Business email user (for example, press “1” for business email user, then “1” again for technical support, where applicable).
      • In automated conversations, clearly state answers such as:
        • Problem type: “Authenticator” or “lost account” / “can’t receive verification code”.
        • Product: “Office 365 for business” or “Microsoft 365 for business”.
        • Account type: “Company account”.
        • Administrator: “Yes, I am the only administrator; there is no other admin.”
        • Request: “Yes, I need a service request; I need the Data Protection team to reset my authentication methods.”
    3. Explain the scenario to the agent
      • State that the Brazilian phone number used for MFA/SMS is permanently unavailable and that the tenant has only one admin.
      • Ask explicitly for a Tenant Admin MFA reset / authentication method reset by the Data Protection team.
      • Be prepared to complete identity verification as requested by support.
    4. Optional workaround if phone support is hard to reach
      • If unable to reach a live agent, create a new temporary Microsoft 365 trial tenant from the Microsoft 365 plans page.
      • Sign in to the new tenant’s Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
      • Use Help & support to open a support ticket.
      • In the ticket, specify that this is a different tenant and that access is needed to the original tenant where you are the sole admin, and request Data Protection assistance to reset MFA/phone methods.
      • After the original tenant issue is resolved, cancel the trial subscription to avoid charges.

Because support agents cannot send verification codes or directly change security info without proper process, contacting them via phone or a temporary tenant is required in this scenario.
