To cancel the Microsoft 365 subscription and check if a refund is possible, follow these steps:
- Go to the Services & subscriptions page: https://account.microsoft.com/services.
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used when activating Microsoft 365 on the new laptop.
- Under Services & subscriptions, find the Microsoft 365 subscription that was charged.
- Select Manage next to that subscription.
- If instead of Manage there is Turn on recurring billing, the subscription is already set to expire on the date shown and will not be charged again.
- On the Manage page, select Cancel or Cancel subscription (it may show as Upgrade or Cancel).
- Follow the on‑screen instructions to complete cancellation.
To get a refund:
- For Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium subscriptions purchased from Microsoft, refund eligibility is determined after cancellation. Not all cancellations result in a refund.
- After canceling, the system will indicate whether a refund is available based on the subscription, timing, and country.
- In some countries (for example Canada, Israel, Korea, Turkey, and certain longer renewed subscriptions in Denmark, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, and Portugal), prorated refunds may apply. See the “Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions” information linked from the refund article.
If the subscription was purchased through the laptop’s app store (Google Play or Apple App Store) instead of directly from Microsoft, cancellation and any refund must be requested from that store’s support, not from Microsoft.
Be aware that canceling Microsoft 365 will eventually reduce cloud storage back to the free quota, which can affect access to OneDrive files and Outlook.com email if storage is over the free limit.
