Try these steps and checks when Copilot’s response text won’t appear in the Word document after copy/paste:

1. Use standard keyboard paste
   After selecting text in the Copilot pane, press Ctrl+C to copy and then click in the document body and press Ctrl+V. This uses the normal Office clipboard pipeline.
2. Test paste from outside Word
   Copy some text from another app (for example, a browser or Notepad) and paste into the same Word document.
   • If that text also doesn’t appear, the issue is with Word’s paste/clipboard handling, not Copilot. In that case, restart Word and Windows, then test again.
3. Check document/source restrictions
   If the document is opened from a managed location (for example, work OneDrive/SharePoint) and the device is governed by Intune App Protection Policies, cut/copy/paste may be restricted between apps.
   • If Restrict cut, copy, and paste between other apps is set to Blocked, pasting into Word from other apps (including Copilot surfaces that run as separate components) can fail silently.
   • An admin can change this to Policy managed apps or Policy managed apps with paste in so that pasting into Word is allowed.
4. Try “Paste text only”
   If the content is being copied but formatting is causing issues, use Paste Text Only in Word:
   • On supported browsers and builds, use Ctrl+Shift+V or select the paste options button (“paste floatie”) and choose Paste text only. This strips formatting and can bypass some formatting-related paste problems.
5. Confirm Word is editable
   Ensure the document is not in a protected or read-only state (for example, opened as read-only, or in a restricted editing mode). Paste will not show if editing is blocked.

If paste from other apps works but Copilot text still never appears, capture the exact steps and environment (Word version, whether the file is from OneDrive/SharePoint, and whether the device is managed by an organization) and provide them to the Microsoft 365 support channel so they can check for a Copilot-specific issue in that configuration.
