I created an excel script by recording.

The script does not appear in the office scripts gallery.

Excel does not allow me to add a button to the workbook.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I see the limitation you’re hitting. Are you using Excel desktop or Excel on the web when you check the gallery?

This is expected for your setup. With a personal subscription and local files, scripts stay in Recent Scripts and do not sync to the full gallery or support adding a worksheet button. Those features require scripts stored with your account in the cloud environment, so on a local-only setup you can run the script, but not pin it to the gallery or assign it to a button.

    HI Arlene,

    Thanks for the response.

I do not use OneDrive or Sharepoint. I am an Office 365 home user. I recorded an automated script and can only access it by selecting Automate/View Scripts/Recent Scripts. The script runs without issue. Everything is local on my computer. I have the latest version of Windows 11 and Office 365 if that helps. The answer I see from Q&A Assist in this thread confuses me also. I am not sure if Assist is saying I cannot add a button or see the script in office scripts gallery because I am a home user.

This is the Office Scripts Gallery I see:

I really appreciate whatever help you can provide.

    Thanks,

    Art

Hi, are you opening the same file from OneDrive or SharePoint where the script was recorded?

Sign out of Excel, sign back in with the same account, then open the workbook from its cloud location and check Automate > All Scripts. Scripts are tied to your account and cloud file, so they will not appear in local copies or different accounts.

Office Scripts and script buttons are only available when the Automate tab and Office Scripts feature are available for the account and Excel environment being used. For a home Microsoft 365 subscription, note that script buttons are not available during the Office Scripts preview for personal and family subscriptions.

To run the recorded script without a gallery button or worksheet button:

    1. In Excel, go to Automate > View Scripts.
    2. Choose Recent Scripts or Scripts from this Workbook to open the Office Scripts task pane.
    3. In the task pane, locate the recorded script and select Run.

If the script does not appear and the Automate tab or Office Scripts seem unavailable, check the following:

    1. Confirm the Microsoft 365 license and platform support for Office Scripts as described under platform limits.
    2. Ensure the Automate tab is enabled and Office Scripts are not disabled by admin or policy (for managed tenants).
    3. If using Excel on the web, ensure third‑party cookies are enabled.
    4. If using Excel on Windows, ensure WebView2 is installed.

Because script buttons are not available for personal/family subscriptions during preview, adding a button to the workbook will not be possible in that scenario. Scripts must be run from the Office Scripts task pane instead.
